"Is it an action scene in a James Bond movie?"  No.  "Is it something the road runner careens off of in a cartoon?"  Nope.

You can't watch the news these days without hearing about a looming "fiscal cliff" that Congress must address by the end of the year.  One of the biggest items on the table: In a moms vs. billionaires scenario, Congress must decide before the end of the year whether to end the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% of Americans --and to protect investments in working and middle-class families, as well as in Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security.

But, other than sounding like a movie scene from Skyfall, what does this "fiscal cliff" mean to you in your daily life?

Don't look away.  This question is more important than you think.

You see, as the corporate K Street lobbyists push their agendas to keep big tax breaks for the very wealthy, we at MomsRising are making sure that leaders also hear from real people on Main Streets across the nation!  You.

Tell it like it is!  What would happen if your family's budget had to be stretched tighter-- and do you think the very wealthy should pay their fair share or keep getting extra tax breaks?

What would happen if  your family's budget had to be stretched tighter?  And how would it impact you and your loved ones if Medicaid, Medicare, or Social Security was cut back?  And also please share your thoughts on this important question: Do you think it's important to end the Bush tax cuts to the very wealthy in order to protect investments in working and middle-class families?

Don't hold back! Leaders need to hear what's happening from moms on Main Streets across the nation, and not just from corporate lobbyists on K Street in Washington, D.C.

MomsRising will be delivering your experiences and thoughts directly to leaders in D.C. and across the nation.  So please take a moment to forward this email to friends and family -- and also to post the action link on Facebook -- so others can have their experiences delivered to top leaders too.

Our voices--and experiences--are needed to spark quick Congressional movement toward ending the Bush tax cuts for the very wealthy.  Why?

Ending the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2% – those households making over $250,000 a year – would generate about $1 trillion in revenue. But if these special tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans continue, we won’t be able to protect middle-class priorities like education, Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare, from deep cutbacks. Clearly, we can’t afford to keep giving tax cuts to those who need them the least.

This is the time for all of America's families to speak up about our nation's priorities! By simply clicking the above link, you're making an important, much-needed statement. A lot is at stake in Congress:

  • If the House and Senate don't reach a deal quickly, then massive across the board cuts, called sequestration, will begin in January. This could cost millions of jobs and hurt healthcare, education, aid to state and local governments, and other vital programs for kids and families like Head Start, child care, and food safety.
  • What's at stake gets even trickier.  Some lawmakers are trying to use this high-stakes moment of legislative complexity as a way to sneak in drastic cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, in addition to cutting many other programs that are essential to creating jobs and protecting families.

Our voices are needed to counter corporate lobbyists who are trying to help billionaires while moms and families on Main Streets across the nation struggle. We simply can't balance the budget on the backs of children, seniors, families, and those most in need.

*Don't forget to tell it like it is!   What would happen if your family's budget had to be stretched tighter-- and do you think the very wealthy should pay their fair share or keep getting extra tax breaks?
