Early education our kids deserve, in 140 characters or less

Earlier this week, Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid was photographed wearing his MomsRising pacifier pin—evidence of exactly how powerful moms can be. When enough women come together and make their collective voices heard, politicians will listen.

With so much at stake for women, families and children on the national and state levels, we in California are also trying to get the attention of policymakers. As part of Preschool California’s advocacy work, we know we must reach out not only to the policymakers here today, but also to those who will be in office tomorrow. That’s why we’re engaged in work to ensure all of California’s 2010 gubernatorial candidates know exactly which issues are important to us. Considering California is home to 1 out of 8 of the nation’s young low-income children, we want to make sure that all of the candidates for governor, Republicans and Democrats alike, are informed about the importance of early childhood development.

Today, in 140 characters or less, you can ensure that early education is a priority issue in the 2010 California gubernatorial race. The Republican candidates for governor will convene for a Twitter debate on Oct. 28, where half of the debate questions will come from the public, submitted via Twitter. We have a unique opportunity to demonstrate to these candidates exactly how important early learning is by tweeting a question about early childhood education.

The debate moderators are currently soliciting questions through this evening. It’s never been so easy to let your voice be heard! Please help us demonstrate how vital early learning is to California’s children, families and future by asking: What are your views on the importance of high-quality early education? #ece #cadebate. Tagging your questions with “#cadebate” will ensure that the moderators of the debate see your question.

    Thank you!
