The reports keep coming in about swine flu. Schools, child care centers, workplaces, and it seems like just about everyone has a plan for dealing with outbreak –you’ve probably received memos about it too. And everyone has the same advice for preventing the spread of Swine Flu: if you or anyone in your family has symptoms, stay home.

The news over the weekend was scary — outbreaks of a potentially pandemic flu virus, called the “swine flu” are being reported all over the world, including in the U.S. As of this morning there have been only 20 confirmed cases of swine flu in the U.S., and none of them have been fatal.

We had a great event in Boston at the MA State House last week supporting paid sick days, thanks to MomsRising members’ work and donations, and the wonderful work of our coalition partners in Massachusetts.

Last week, President Obama signed into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act — his first new law as president, and a bill long championed by Connecticut’s own Rosa DeLauro. In his speech to mark the occasion, he drew a direct connection between supporting fair pay practices, and the economic security of our country:

We’re so close to passing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act that we’re already cooling the champagne. But (and this is a pretty big “but”) there are some potentially big glitches that could happen today on the Senate floor and we need your help to stop them.

Woo hooo!!! The Paid Sick Days Ballot Initiative in Milwaukee, WI won in a landslide victory on Tuesday, with the approval of 68% of voters. This is a huge win for the citizens of Milwaukee, who will now be able to earn paid sick days when this law goes into effect.

Moms across Washington State are walking their blocs today to help make sure friends and neighbors are registered to vote. This simple and fun activity is a little thing that can make a big difference. Did you know nearly 1 in 12 women in America aren’t registered to vote?
And, the best way to get people to register, and vote, is to ask them!
