My wife and I both work "second shifts". Often, while I am cooking dinner, my wife is taking care of getting our two girls (4yrs & 18mos) prepped for the meal. After dinner, she will typically clear the table and take care of the dishes while I clean up our daughters and get them settled with their games/books/drawing etc. From there, we both play with them until bedtime where each of us gets one of the two ready for bed, reads them a story, etc. We often split the responsibilities of who takes which child to their doctors' appointments as well. We are both fortunate enough to work for companies who preach and at least seem to practice a "family first "attitude". I also know a number of men who are in the same situation I am - they work the second shift alongside their wives. Frankly, I've long felt that this type of arrangement fosters a much healthier married life and allows both of us the time we need for relaxation, personal time and we also both get to enjoy the upbringing of our children.
