Well, that was a whirlwind of a week last week. Whew. It’s already Monday again! And here are the Top 5 Actions Of The Week for this week. You can take one action a day, or all five on the same day; you can take action any time of day or night, your choice!

One thing is clear: The increased number of people (like YOU!) who are rising and making their voices heard is having a strong impact! Thank you.

Feel free to share the below list on Facebook and other social media platforms, too. Your friends will thank you. At MomsRising, we are getting lots of requests for action lists. Without further ado…

*Here Are Our Top 5 Actions For This Week:

1. Attend a Town Hall Meeting & Help Protect Healthcare! — MomsRising supporters across the country are attending Town Hall meetings to protect healthcare and your voice is needed too! Sign on here to say that you’re interested in attending a local Town Hall meeting in your area. Then we’ll give you everything you need, including a book of stories from other MomsRising members about how healthcare has helped their families, community, and local economy.

→ ACTION: http://action.momsrising.org/signup/town-hall-protect-healthcare/

Background: It’s time to use our “outside voices” to help protect healthcare! Members of Congress will be at home during the month of February, and many are hosting Town Halls to hear from constituents like you. Your voice is needed, and is powerful, and we hope you can go to a local event with your member of Congress. (Don’t worry, we’ll give you everything you need to attend, including a small booklet of healthcare stories for you to hand to your member of Congress.) Now is a critical time: Healthcare is on the chopping block right now: In fact repealing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and making massive cuts to Medicaid, CHIP, and Medicare are at the top of President Trump’s and some members of Congress’ agenda right now, so it’s incredibly important for you to make your voice heard. (There are heroes in Congress too. Some have been protecting healthcare and they need to hear from us as well so they know we’re behind them as they fight for all of us).

2. Make A Quick Call! Tell the U.S. Senate to vote “NO” on Andrew Puzder for the Secretary of Labor ASAP — Puzder’s hearing is this Thursday, February 16th so the time to call is NOW! Take 30 seconds now and call 1.855.440.1800. It’s easy and will have a big impact. When you dial the number, you’ll be connected directly to the office of a key U.S. Senator. Tell them to vote “NO” on Andrew Puzder.

→ ACTION: Call 1.855.440.1800 to tell key U.S. Senators #JustSayNOonPuzder!

Background: Andy Pudzer opposes paid sick days, overtime pay, breaks for workers, and more. In short, he’s not qualified to serve in a position that protects workers. The U.S. Senate must oppose Puzder to lead the U.S. Department of Labor. Call your U.S. Senator now at 1.855.440.1800. We’ll walk you through every step of the way.

3. - School, Not Suspensions for Maryland’s Littlest Learners! Sign on to send a letter to let leaders know it’s time to ban the practice of suspending preschoolers without any further delay.

→ ACTION: http://action.momsrising.org/sign/momsrising_petition_MD_PREK_Suspension_Bill

Background: Children suspended at an early age are at greater risk of being suspended later in their educational lives. Suspension and expulsion adversely impact a child’s developmental, health and educational outcomes. These practices deny children critical opportunities to learn academic and social skills during a foundational time in their development. This often leads to student disengagement, academic failure, and entry into the school-to-prison pipeline. Click above to urge Maryland state legislators to vote in support of Maryland House Bill HB425 and BAN the practice of suspending preschoolers without any further delay.

4. #KeepMarching — Sign up to be on a (free) MomsRising Telephone Training on advocacy and local organizing!

→ ACTION: http://action.momsrising.org/survey/KeepMarchingTeleTownHall_TacticsTips/

Background: MomsRising is holding a (free) Telephone Town Hall meeting to share simple, easy-to-use tips about some of our favorite organizing and advocacy tactics with our members who are ready to do more. After the Women’s March, people across the country vowed to #KeepMarching. We are with you every step of the way! That’s why, on Tuesday, February 21, at 9 PM EST/6pmPST we’re holding this MomsRising Telephone Town Hall meeting, where we’ll cover:

  • How to use local petition efforts to have a high impact
  • How to hold effective meetings with lawmakers — from your town council to the U.S. Congress
  • How to write powerful Letters to the Editor
  • How to use online tools to drive in-person action
  • How to pick targets and tactics for maximum impact
  • And more

5. Get Your “Nevertheless, She Persisted!” Button & Help MomsRising Grow!

→ ACTION: Click here to get your button: https://action.momsrising.org/donate/she_persisted/

Background: U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell shut down Senator Elizabeth Warren during the confirmation hearing for Jeff Sessions for U.S. Attorney General, preventing her from reading the words of Coretta Scott King. We stand with Coretta Scott King, U.S. Senator Warren & EVERY woman who persists! Racism is unacceptable. Silencing women is unacceptable. Senator Jeff Sessions is an unacceptable U.S. Attorney General. Together, we resist and we persist. Help us grow the movement with a donation today and we’ll send you this “Nevertheless, She Persisted!” button.

And that’s the top 5 actions for this week. Thanks for being a part of the movement that is #StillMarching!

Now, you might be wondering: What is MomsRising, anyway? MomsRising is an organization of over a million people, including people in every state in our nation, that’s working to increase family economic security, decrease discrimination against women and moms, and to build a nation that works for everyone. We open avenues for busy people to make an impact and have an impressive track record of wins at the city, state, and federal levels. One thing we’ve learned over and over again throughout our past 10 years together is that together we truly are a powerful force!

→ YOU ARE INVITED! → For your last action of the week, we invite you to sign on with us and we’ll bring you regular, high impact ways to #KeepMarching in the coming weeks as well: http://action.momsrising.org/signup/stand_with_momsrising

Feel free to forward this blog to your family, friends and other members of your community so they can take action too — and to help us grow our movement.

Together, we will never stop fighting for a safer and more just country! #KeepMarching!

P.S. Help spread the word about the rights of families in our country by sharing these videos on Facebook.  What’s the lowdown? In light of the unAmerican and highly destructive Executive Orders that #Trump pushed forward in the past couple of weeks, MomsRising pulled together "Know Your Rights" guidance for families who may be at risk of ICE action, in English & Spanish.  Here is the English version: https://www.facebook.com/MomsRising.org/videos/10154155286316610/?pnref=story  *Please share far and wide!

And here is the Spanish version: ¡Conoce tus derechos! Información en español en este video con abogada de migración:  https://www.facebook.com/MomsRising.org/videos/10154155207541610/
