Paid Family Leave

Not to add to the touting candidates, but Bill Clinton enacted the Paid Family Leave program, and Hillary Clinton wants to add to it. To be fair, Barack Obama also supports extending this program. I don't think there's really any substantial difference between the candidates in their positions on the issue. The difference is in how long these two candidates have been working on these issues. In 1998, Hillary clinton was arguing for paid family leave. Barack Obama seems to have first mentioned it in Feb 2008.

what are the scores?

I came to this blog looking for the Bingo scores for Obama and Clinton on their recent debates. What I found was people who are passionate about their candidates. I am curious to see which candidates are as supportive of family friendly policies as we think they are. There is evidence that people don't vote for people that reflect their views, they vote for people that they like.
Does anyone have the scores?? Thank you!

Bingo Scores...

If you take a look at earlier comments...you will see the actual bingo scores. Yes, some of us got into a debate here...but it's not simply because we like the person in question...it's because they actually do stand for our values.

Please do a little more in-depth reading, and you'll see for yourself that people here have already discussed those issues, albeit not too recently.

Scores

I did notice that several pages back there were scores listed. They were completely inconsistent (not one of them was the same as the others).
I received an e-mail from momsrising.org that gave the bingo scores of the republican debates. I was hoping for an objective tally just like that for the democratic debates from momsrising.
NPR had a spot with anonymous voices and names listing the platforms of all of the candidates. It was surprising to find that the platform of the candidate that I was voting for didn't really match my values! I took that as a challenge to start looking at things more objectively. The point of the piece on the radio, (which has been verified by several questionnaires on the web that match you with the candidate that matches your views best) was that it is human nature to go on a little emotion and instinct. But, it was eye opening for me.
I really didn't mean to imply that the bloggers here weren't making informed choices. I just know that I was previously inclined not to! Would momsrising be willing to send out an objective tally of the democratic nominees? I am not looking for an endorsement here, just really looking for objective info.
Thanks.

YES WE CAN! VOTE OBAMA!

As a Mom of 3, including my daughter with special needs, I take this election very seriously because it's their future that we are helping to shape. Barack Obama is the man who has the vision, the intelligence, the experience, the leadership skills, and the integrity. If you look at the hundreds of bills he passed in the Illinois Senate and his congressional voting record, you'll see that his priorities are things that are important to Americans like healthcare and ethics reform. He has a comprehensive plan for education, for healthcare, for people with disabilities...have you seen his paper on resolving the problem with lead in our toys? But perhaps the most essential reason that Obama is the best candidate is because of his judgment - he spoke out and voted "no" regarding the Iraq war from the beginning, and he is willing to "sit down at the table with friends and foes" - a critical need for America to regain our respect in the world. His foreign policy advisors are people who will help bring peace, whereas if you look at those advising Clinton regarding foreign policy, it looks like we'll see more of the same tragic losses that we've seen under Bush. Also in regards to Hilary Clinton, there are too many reasons NOT to vote for her to list, but they include her 'yes' vote for the Iraq war and her recent 'yes' vote regarding Iran and her refusal to give a timetable to withdraw our troops from Iraq; she receives a lot of money from lobbyists - more than other candidates; and her track record of polarizing people and politicians will not help this country move forward. I also find it absolutely ridiculous that her campaign is asking the DNC to count the delegates in Florida and Michigan - another reason not to trust her. Barack Obama has proven that he can cross partisan lines and get things done. He is engaging people of all ages throughout the country and will make us proud to be Americans again. His Economic Stimulus plan will help our economy to recover. He will help teachers to gain the respect and pay they deserve. Go to his website and read his impressive plans, listen to him speak, and look at his past voting records. The choice is obvious...Change We Can Believe In...vote Barack Obama.

Obama was the only member of

Obama was the only member of the IL State Senate to vote AGAINST a bill that prohibited early release for sexual predators. Obama's words come from speech writers such as Ted Sorensen, one of JFK's speechwriters. Obama did NOT vote no regarding the Iraq War, he was NOT IN THE SENATE!!!! He simply wrote a speech. He has continued to vote to fund this war he claims he was against. Agreeing to sit down for a summit without preconditions with Ahmoud Amadinejad, is the farthest thing from good judgement in regards to Iran. He has made careless remarks concerning Pakistan (unilaterally bombing??). He has to answer questions concerning his support to his distant cousin in Kenya and the disputed election. John McCain will have a field day with this most freshman Senator who lacks qualifications and experience in a time when we need the most capable person to pull us out of the depths of George Bush, the voting ignorance must stop. Hillary "polarizing" people is only the result of cable TV of the likes of FOX news repeating this propaganda until it becomes "factual" in the minds of lazy thinking America. Do not fall for this AGAIN. These same people continue to tell you "Hillary motivates their base". This is the same old tried and true bait and switch. Of course they do NOT want to run against the Clintons, they want Obama. They believe they will easily defeat him in the general. They have been working feverishly to be sure she is NOT the nominee. The choice is obvious to me, it has to be Hillary.

Where's The Bingo?

With the kind of money required to run for president in this country, I don't doubt there is special interest money being thrown around. In fact, even the little guy out there has it in his/her special interest to elect the person THEY are spending their hard earned dollars on. No one sends money to candidates on a big or small level without wanting to get something in return.

Both candidates have their strong points and they both have flaws. I was suprised to see a "my candidate can beat up your candidate" fight here, I was just looking for the bingo results.

I voted for the person who I thought would get the job done and done right. From this point, it's out of my hands.

I don't think anyone here

I don't think anyone here wanted a "mine is better than yours" discussion...it's more like..."This is WHO I'm supporting and WHY...and this is my understanding of the issues, the candidates, and their positions". Some healthy discussion is never a bad thing.

We all have to do what we think is right. Me, I just hope that after this coming election, we have an administration that is really committed to progressive movement for a change.

Either Democratic candidate

Either Democratic candidate is acceptable to bring change. I've read Hillary stating April 07 and Barak repeating same in August 07 :support for healthcare, economic reform, education, ending the war for oil, etc. Hillary is the candidate with a strong focus out front and Barak restates her platform to make it his own. Wake up! Mothers unite with a mother!

Follow the Money

It's great to see that a lot of people on this site are not automatically voting for Hillary because she is a woman but are looking to see where most of her money comes from (big business, especially health care industry) and that she is not neccessarily the more pro-family candidate.

I do think Hillary has been unfairly treated at times and that there are still some unfair double standards being a female candidate, which is sad to see in this day and age.

But the most important thing is to elect a president that is really going to back the progressive pro-family agenda we all support. For me, that means GO OBAMA!
