National Moms Grassroots Organization to Urge Candidates to Focus on Supporting Families with Display at Democratic and Republican Conventions
MomsRising.org, the national grassroots organization for moms and anyone who has a mom will be on-hand at the Republican convention on Wednesday to call attention to the importance of the candidates valuing families by addressing issues like health care, fair wages, flexible work hours, paid sick days, paid family leave, and affordable childcare. MomsRising.org visited the Democratic convention last Wednesday.
MomsRising.org members will display dozens of baby onesies (one-piece outfits for babies) decorated by members from across the country with messages about what American families need, who want to hear how Senator McCain will address these critical “kitchen table” issues at the Republican convention:

The Power of ONEsie display is part of MomsVote ’08, MomsRising.org’s effort to focus candidates’ attention on family friendly policies and mobilize moms to register to vote and to vote. Women comprise more than half of all voters in the U.S. and eight in ten women are mothers by the time they are 44. MomsVote ‘08 is working to bring the voices of moms and their families to the forefront during the elections.
MomsRising.org Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner and Moms Vote ’08 Director Laura Hitchcock will be on-hand along with several Minneapolis/St. Paul-area members to offer comment on the ONEsie display and MomsVote ’08.
On Thursday evening, MomsRising.org members will be watching Senator McCain’s speech and noting how often he mentions family friendly policies, with the help of special “BINGO” cards. During Senator Obama’s acceptance speech the last week, members tracked his mentions of these issues. MomsRising.org will host an online conversation after both conventions to ascertain members’ impressions of how each candidate performed.
MomsRising.org is an online grassroots organization that is working for paid family leave, flexible work options, excellent childcare and healthcare for all children, and to stop the wage and hiring biases that penalize so many mothers today. MomsRising.org has more than 150,000 members across the United States.
